Conveyor Belts

Balflexâ Conveyor Belts are made using a variety of construction techniques and
materials, in order to meet the most demanding applications and standards.
Balflexâ has optimised the construction of the conveyor belts, using the latest available
technology in order to assure top rated performance. Among the features of Balflexâ
conveyor belts are:
High strength: Specially treated high strength fabric or cords achieve
highest tensile resistance with an inferior number of plies, thus reducing weight and the
overall costs of the structure and of operating costs.
Low elongation: Specially treated high strength fabric or cords achieve
lower elongation, requiring less readjustments and assuring higher service life
High flexibility: Specially treated fabric or cords achieve high
flexibility, allowing smaller pulleys and thus more compact structures and lower costs
High transverse flexibility: Increased transverse flexibility allows
higher trough angles and thus higher bulk transport capacity
Rubber layers: Special synthetic rubber compounds of the cover layers
confer high resistance to various working conditions and allow to choose better resistance
to heat, cold, oil, abrasion, static electricity build-up or chemical and bacteriological
attack
Special features: special built-in features (on request), such as lateral
walls, underside V-guides, fins, rough top, chevrons or bucket elevator holes, allow
adequate material handling in special conditions
Balflexâ Conveyor Belts are identified by:
the carcass type and tensile strength (per mm width);
the width and length;
the thickness of upper and lower rubber layers; and
the grade of resistance to different conditions.
The belts are produced in standard lengths and widths listed in the catalogue pages. Other widths and special features can be
supplied on request.
Carcass

The carcass of the conveyor belt supports the load and provides structural strength. The
carcass consists of layers of fabric or
longitudinal cords, impregnated or embedded in a specially elastic rubber compound.
The warp of the fabric or the material of the cords defines the tensile strength of the
conveyor belt. Fabrics are often made with a combination of different materials for warp
and weft, in order to improve characteristics of the belt.
The fabric or cords are impregnated with a special compound rubber, to provide a permanent
elastic bond with the surrounding rubber layers. This rubber skim coat is dimensioned and
compounded according to the pretended use and helps cushion impacts of the bulk on the
conveyor belt, allowing flexibility of the belt without separation of its parts.
The breaker fabric, a specially woven polyamide fabric, is used on top of the carcass to
add improved impact resistance. Additional breakers can be used as intermediate layers of
the carcass.
Cover

The cover protects the carcass from impact, abrasion and other external
influences that cause its deterioration. The upper cover
provides a uniform surface for the goods to be transported and cushions the effects of its
irregularities. The lower cover provides the friction between belt and driving pulley and
again a more uniform distribution of the weight on the carrying idlers.
The cover is made of special compound rubber. The compound used and the thickness of the
layer will determinate the resistance of the belt to particular external influences.
Balflex Conveyor Belts are available with covers in a variety of compounds to meet the
most demanding working conditions.
